Vintage Pope Gosser Rimmed Fruit Dessert Bowl - Set of Four, Rose Point Pattern Made in USA.
These are called 6 inch bowls, but in reality they are approximately 5 7/8 inches wide and 1 1/8 inches deep.
This beautiful pattern was based on lace and has a finely-detailed rose and leaf pattern. Very pretty.
History of the Rose Point pattern:
"Management sought to create a signature line of chinaware. Collaborating with the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum,the Pope-Gosser China Company developed a new design using a piece of wedding lace collected by David and John Johnson, benefactors of the highly regarded museum recently established in Coshocton, Ohio. After working several months, their artist developed the embossed “Rose Point” design. Differing from other designs of the era, Rose Point was more finely detailed, and extended beyond the normal rim-only decoration.It was also unique in that it had to be adapted to each piece.The embossed design was produced on a light ivory body with a “glaze of unusual brilliancy and transparency.”
